Bladless LASIK

The newer, but not necessarily better technique for creating flaps of the cornea (clear covering of eye) is called “All-Laser LASIK” as opposed to the traditional LASIK surgery. This “All-Laser LASIK is commonly known as “Bladless LASIK”. In this method, a laser device is used to create the opening on the eye versus a mechanical blade. Eye surgeons have not yet agreed to which method is the best, however, SIX main considerations are usually reviewed prior to utilizing any of the methods for making  a flap.

1. Vision Quality

2. Possible Risks and complications

3.  Recovery period for normalization of vision

4. Discomfort and pain (pre-surgery and post-surgery)

5. Exact flap size and thickness

6. Cost and financial resources

As with the rest of LASIK procedure, discuss all aspects of surgery, including the method of flap creation with your surgeon, and make sure you are comfortable with your chosen method prior to surgery.
