Before LASIK
Here are FIVE Things to Do before LASIK Surgery:
1. Complete Eye Examination
Have a professional and complete eye examination prior to surgery. This will certify the health of your eye prior to any procedure is done. Remember that some of the medication that they may put in your eye may make it impossible to drive for a few hours after your eye examination is completed, post and pre-surgery.
2. Arrange for Transportation
You will most likely not be able to drive immediately after the surgery and so my require some one to get you home. You should arrange for transportation prior to surgery.
3. No contact lenses for 2 weeks
Give your cornea (clear covering of the eye) a rest as well as your entire eye prior to your pre-surgery consultation as well as surgery date. The general recommended time is two weeks but this may vary based on the surgeon.
4. Read and Understand all Forms
Read thoroughly, and understand all forms and instructions that are given to you. Read your informed consent and ask any question prior to signing. Find out the worst case situation for the surgery and brace your self for that.
5. No Make Up
Keep your face clear of makeup for about 24-36 hours. This protects you against foreign bodies getting into the cut made in your eye and causing infections.
6. Plan Days Off
After surgery, you may need to stay home and take things easy for a few days if necessary. Arranging this in advance will help you start relaxed before and after surgery.
7. Medications
If you will need certain medications for your eyes, it is advisable to get them filled prior to surgery. This will allow you to take it easy afterwards. Also, sometimes, some medications may not be in stock and will need to be ordered by the pharmacy.
