LASIK Review

LASIK is a surgical procedure on the eye that is intended to return a person’s vision to near-perfect and reduce their need for contact lenses or glasses.

LASIK means Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis

With the aid of laser, LASIK generally causes a permanent change on the clear covering of the eye also known as the eye cornea. With this change, the eye vision is corrected and a LASIK recipeint normally walks away from surgery with less need for vision aids. LASIK is performed in five general steps.

1. A flap is cut in the cornea with a blade or laser device

2.  A hinge is left open at one end of the flap

3. The stroma, which is the middle section of cornea is exposed

4. Computer-generated laser vapors are applied on the exposed part

5. The flap is replaced.

This general description is one of the techniques of LASIK surgery. Other techniques may also be applied, but the goal is to get a near-perfect post-surgery vision.
